This is the first installment of a series of cocktails based on the silver screen classics of days gone by. I've always been fascinated by this era, especially from a cocktail standpoint. Many feel this is the last true era of imbibing before it all went wrong.
In the 1941 film, Citizen Kane, Orsen Welles writes, directs, produces, and stars as Charles Foster Kane. The character of Kane is based loosely on real life newspaper tycoon, William Randolph Hearst. Our protagonist begins a life of social service, but eventually crumbles under his own pursuit of power. 1 ounce Appleton Signature
.25 ounces Wray & Nephew
.75 ounces Amaro Averna
.75 ounces Fassionola Syrup (Recipe here)
.75 ounces Fresh Lime Juice
3 drops Rose Water
1 Egg White
Combine with ice in a cocktail shaker.
Shake and strain, discarding ice.
Dry shake vigorously.
Strain into Chilled cocktail coupe, allowing meringue to settle.
Carefully sprinkle sugar on the top of the egg white meringue.
Brulee with torch.
Garnish with dried rosebuds..........
