Day 41: Imperial Getaway

American journalist, Earl Wilson once said "A vacation is what you take when you can no longer take what you’ve been taking." I doubt any of us ever considered a time when we would need time off, to recover from our "time off." With the days blending together, I almost forgot that today is Star Wars Sunday again. Strap in, grab your blaster, and let's dive into another elixir from a galaxy far far away.

Regardless of your opinion of the stormtroopers' lack of marksmanship, the image of these elite soldiers of the Empire brings an uneasy feeling to anyone who grew up watching Star Wars. There's something to be admired about their lack of personal feelings and absolute allegiance. The stormtrooper shows so little emotion and feeling, in the name of duty, many casual fans mistake them for robots or droids. With all of the marching, fighting, and maintaining imperial battle-stations, do you think the stormtroopers ever take vacations?

Imagine, if you will, a stormtrooper in full tropical attire, enjoying the sounds of steel drums. I see them relaxing, exotic libation in hand, happy they don't have to shoot at rebels for awhile. Would the weather be nice? Would they have to return to fighting? Do the memories of battle keep them from enjoying the sounds of the waves?

With everything going on today, we have our own loyal brigade out there, defending our lives. I'm talking, of course, about the essential workers, those still making the world turn. Without our doctors, nurses, grocery-store employees, and postal workers, among many others, life as we know it would stop entirely. With most of these sectors being heavily understaffed, the idea of time off is far from an option. Though most of us would not be sitting at home, if our skill-set were more essential than say mixing rum drinks, we owe a huge debt of gratitude to these worker. They are our stormtroopers, and they deserve a getaway.

Imperial Getaway

1oz Aged Puerto Rican Rum (I had Don Q Vermouth Cask on hand, but any high-quality aged rum from Puerto Rico will do the trick.)

.75oz Aged Agricole Rhum (Clement VSOP)

.5oz Peach Brandy or Liqueur (I used Giffard Crème de Pêche.)

.5oz Passion Fruit Syrup

.5oz Lime Juice

1.5oz Pineapple Juice

Stormtrooper Tiki Mug

Whip shake and pour unstrained.

Top with crushed ice.

Garnish with pineapple fronds and orange rosette.

When this is all over, and the dust of despair settles, nobody can say what the world will look like. All i know is it will be my honor to serve those who are serving us in our time of need. I know I'm not alone in this sentiment. What I can say, is we will give you the getaway you deserve, even if it's just for a night. Until that time comes, my thirsty friends, keep calm and keep shaking.
