Day 97: Hero With No Fear

“Even now, at just three years old, it is obvious that Luke longs to fly. It is like seeing Anakin all over again. The mop of unruly blond hair, the bright blue eyes, the hands permanently tinkering. Luke isn't content to just play with his toys. He's constantly at work modifying them, making improvements.”

Happy Sunday, my thirsty readers. Today is Father's Day, and it's also my last Star Wars Sunday post. I mean, I'll probably still watch Star Wars movies on Sunday, as it's kind of become a tradition at this point. I won't however, be making daily posts by this time next week. I was thinking of how I'd like to honor my father today, and all I could think of was his sitting at home watching war movies. They tend to be his favorite, so I immediately thought of The Clone Wars. Shall we journey, once more, to a place long ago, in a galaxy far far away?

During his last actions, before succumbing to the dark side, Anakin Skywalker was a hero in the Clone Wars, earning him the moniker "Hero With No Fear." Shortly after this though, he was christened Darth Vader, and his time as a Jedi had come to an end. The galaxy would come to fear the name Vader, and the name Skywalker would only exist in the memories of a few.

Anakin would not have destroyed all he created though. He may have journeyed to the dark side, but he left behind his two greatest accomplishments, C-3PO aside, and they were named Luke and Leia. These were his children, and the galaxy's most sinister deadbeat dad wouldn't meet them again until much later. All estranged fathers show their appreciation by cutting off your hand when you finally meet them, right?

I guess Vader wasn't sipping too many cocktail in that bio-mech masterpiece he called a body. If he was though, I'd like to think it would be something dark, boozy, and bitter. Most dad's would probably appreciate a good cocktail on Father's Day, but I think you get an extra special one when you're both a sith and the "Hero With No Fear."

Hero With No Fear

.75oz Aged Overproof Jamaican Rum

.75oz Bourbon

.75oz Cherring Heering

.75oz Vermouth Rosso

1 tsp Fernet Branca

2 dashes Peychaud's Bitters

2 dashes Angostura bitters

Large Cocktail Coupe

Stir and strain over large cut ice.

(That's right, it's one of those "big rock in the coupe" drinks)

Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg.

Will this be my last Star Wars cocktail? I think you know the answer to that. It just might be awhile for the next one. I do know I'll be back tomorrow though, with another drink, another tale, and another reason to keep shaking.
